Piece of the Moment - Poly Pop Pendant

Kate just stumbled across a lovely company (new to us) that is based out of Brooklyn, NY. The company is named TOKENnyc, and they hand craft a variety of goods including casegoods and lighting. They quote, "the collection is aimed at providing elements for purposeful, considered living."

The entire line of products is designed and manufactured in Brooklyn, and the company also "serves as a platform for supporting and participating in the rich community of locally based designers and fabricators. Our piece of the moment is straight out of their lighting collection, which we adore. Check out the Poly Pop Pendant below, and click here for more information on TOKENnyc.

All of their lighting is available in a wide array of finishes/colors. What other colors would you like to see this pendant in?

The New Neutrals

This year, the major color trend for spring and summer has been neons. Bold graphic patterns with a spot of whimsy, such as dots and watercolor stripes have also had a major influence. Now, as we begin to transition into fall and winter, jewel tones, animal prints (especially leopard), and plaids are all appearing. Although most of us are just adapting to this change in trend, all of the color forecasting for 2014 is well underway. Of course, one of the major infuences in color forecasting for interiors, is the influence of the twice yearly runway shows in New York & Paris.

In response to the upcoming year, Benjamin Moore has just released a collection of new colors for 2014. They have labeled this collection the "New Neutral Palette." The colors are intended to be a reflection of trends on the runways, as well as trends in graphics, product design, and landscape design.

Check out the full range of colors below, and click on the link here for more info.

Now, see how we spotted these color trends on the Spring/Summer 2014 runways.

Custom Rugs - Part 2

Remember that post on the custom runners we were working on? Well, they have arrived!

We believe that waiting 10-14 weeks is totally worth it in order to end up with the perfect piece for your space. Why settle on something soley due to timeline, that you will live with for years? Not only does a custom piece allow you to get exactly what you want, but it also allows you to own something that is truly one of a kind. And yes, this relates to not only custom rugs, but also furniture, fabric, etc.

Piece of the Moment - Swedish Dining Arm Chair

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that we adore Rose Tarlow. Not only is she an incredibly talented interior designer, but she is also amazingly talented in both fabric and furniture design. We love her entire line of fabrics and furnishings, and pull them frequently for projects we are working on.

Right now we are especially crushing on this incredible dining arm chair. It is fun and whimsical, yet timeless. What a showstopper this would be on each end of a dining table, or flanking a buffet! This chair would even be killer at a desk......oh, the possibilities!

Clay McLaurin Studio

Atlanta is such a great design hub, especially for interiors and architecture. We are lucky to house one of the nations best design centers, ADAC, as well as a plethora of incredible furniture/accessory/art retailers. One of the best things about being in such a central area for design, is the plethora of events that are hosted here. We love attending these events to learn and be inspired, but it is always so hard to pick and choose with a limited amount of time!

Last Thursday, we had the chance to attend the launch of a new fabric line by Clay McLaurin Studio at Ainsworth Noah. This Atlanta based studio was created by partners Clay McLaurin and Todd Piercy, and we were lucky enough to meet both of them. Not only were they totally dapper, but they were so much fun to talk to!

The company is founded on their belief that "the environment we live in should be a reflection of our own life and experiences." At the event, there was a display of Clay's original art pieces that have inspired each fabric. Seeing this pieces really gave us an insight to his process, which was such a treat. Oh, and the fabrics....oh my! We honestly cannot chose a favorite, because we are so wildly in love with all of them!!! Not only are the patterns fresh and youthful, but the color palettes are absolutely scrumptious!

Clay's Original Artwork

All of their products are designed here in Atlanta by Clay, and produced in North Carolina. I'm afraid we could go on for days about how much we love this new line, but we better let you see it for yourself....I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! What's not to love?!

Color of the Moment - Saffron

This summer we have been obsessed with a color that we best describe as "saffron." It's a lovely, warm blend of yellow and orange, with a slightly neutral undertone. That slight undertone allows it to be used in larger doses without overpowering a room. It is simply delectable when paired with cool grays and blues, or even a rich shade of emerald. Below are a couple of sneak peeks where we have used it in recent spaces.

Maybe it's the imminent cool weather, or the first change in leaves that has us transitioning to fall, but I don't think we will be saying goodbye to this color anytime soon. It transitions so well from season to season, and seems to be cropping up in more places.

2. Oly Studio - Fez Table Lamp
3. Rose Tarlow - Arabesque in Pompeii on Saffron
4. Hillary Thomas - Rock n' Rolla Finial
5. John Robshaw - Sun Pillow
6. Dwell Studio - Citrine Green Watercolor
7. Coyuchi - Mediterranean Bath Towel
8. West Elm - Linen Cotton Blend Bedding

Now that I think of it, Pumpkin Spice Lattes would blend so nicely into this scheme. Well, who can say no to that?!

Field Trip to Robert Bowden

Lately, it seems like we have been running all over the place. Don't get me wrong, we are so thankful to be busy, but sometimes we need a little breather too! It's not often that we are able to make time for product demonstrations or showroom tours, however we managed to step out of the office for a couple of hours today. We had the pleasure of taking a "field trip" to Robert Bowden Inc. with our lovely friends from Kemp Hall Studio, Steve & Georgia.

Robert Bowden Inc. is a wholesale building material supply and manufacturing corporation. They are based out of Marietta, GA and have been in business since 1983. To be quite honest, we had no idea of their wide range of products and capabilities. They carry several major window, door, and trim lines, but also manufacture custom products.

The facility that we visited consists of many different buildings, totalling about 700,000 sq ft. All of the manufacturing is done in house, so it was quite impressive to see! Check out some of the pictures from our tour below and click HERE for more information about the company.

Hardware Makes the Piece

One majorly important detail of a piece or a space is the hardware on it or within it. Hardware alone can define a style. I'm sure you've heard it before, but just by changing out hardware one can drastically alter the overall look. It's true.

Think about hardware more open mindedly than just the hardware on kitchen cabinets or drawers. It also entails the hardware on doors, furniture, light fixtures, etc. Even though we don't believe in all of the finishes within a space needing to be an exact match, we do believe is wildly important that they compliment each other or at least work together (you would be hard set to convince us that shiny brass and chrome should go together).

Since we value hardware with such importance, it always one of the first things we notice. While we were out scouting for an install last week, we stumbled across some pretty amazing examples of antique hardware. Check out the detail shots below and let us know what you think.

Custom Rugs - Part 1

We are currently working on a project where we have had the opportunity to order several custom runners. Most clients aren't willing to wait for the timeline that something like this takes, so it's really exciting!

An Interior Shot of Verde Home

To give you a little background, Verde Home is an interiors store located just off of Brady Avenue on the Westside. They carry a wonderful selection of furnishings, art, accessories, and floor coverings. The designs for the runners that we are having made are part of a collection they have created with Michel Boyd. The designs are more transitional, but can really work in any space by chaning the scale or color palette.

Samples of Patterns from the Collection

When designing a custom rug, you get to select your colors from hundreds of different tufts (and if for some reason the perfect colored tuft doesn't exist, they can custom match). Next is the choice of materials. Verde Home offers both wool and bamboo silk, which is incredibly soft and more durable that regular silk. Once all of your selections have been made, Verde Home creates a scale rendering for you. From there, you can either choose to have a sample made, or jump straight into the custom piece.

Selecting Tufts for One of Our Orders

Verde Home works with a factory in India, where all of the custom pieces are hand loomed. Because each piece is hand loomed by a series of weavers, it can take roughly 10-14 weeks for a completed product. Our first batch of runners is almost complete, and we had the nice surprise of seeing a progress photo a few days ago! We cannot wait to see the final products!!!

Books for Summer

First of all, Happy Fourth of July to all of our fellow Americans!

It seems like during the summer, there is more time to read and just spend lazy days relaxing (especially with the non-stop rain in Atlanta this year). Why not curl up on the couch with a book, or bring one to keep you company at the pool?

Here's the short list of books you'll catch us with right now. Click on the captions to learn more about these gorgeous reads.
