Dressing for Guests

One of our favorite ways to dress a kitchen or bath for guests, is to add a couple of great hand towels. Not only are they pretty, but they are functional too. They are also great for changing out during holidays, or for a quick way to freshen up. Below are some our personal favorites.

A Little Creativity

Our work on the Inspiration Showhouse has really taken off this week! We have been extremely busy finalizing fabrics and working on the main furniture selections. We originally planned on building a custom sofa, but with the holidays quickly approaching, the timeline caused us to rethink our plans. We spent the morning last Friday searching Ebay, Craigslist, and Etsy, and stumbled across the perfect piece. With a beautiful new slipcover, this sofa will really be brought to life.

A New Store on the Westside

We love working in the Westside district of Atlanta! If you've spent time in the area, you would know that it's full of great restaurants, boutiques, and design stores. It's super convenient to Midtown too, so it's really a great place to be. It seems like there are often new shops popping up near us, and we found one yesterday that we love!

Steve McKenzie's just opened shop in October, and is run by husband and wife, Steve and Jill McKenzie. They were super sweet and have a beautiful store! It's open to the public, but love working with the trade. The shop's site is still under construction, but you can check it out on Facebook now. We're already planning our next visit!

Palette for the Parlor

So, how did we select our color palette for the Parlor? It all started with us finding an incredible rug!

The brothers at Sullivan Rugs are such a great resource to us, so we turned to them when we began looking for a rug for the show house. We gave them a rough size to work off of, and they pulled some great options for us. Once we saw this rug, we knew immediately that it was the perfect one! This rug is almost square measuring in at roughly 12'3" x 13'3". It is about 200 years old, but the colors are still so incredibly vibrant! It truly is unlike anything we have ever seen before. We wouldn't want to give it all away, but here is a little sneak peek of what it looks like.

The stunning rug!! (And yes, that's pink!)

Inspiration House 2013

We are so excited to announce that we have been chosen to participate in the 2013 Inspiration House!!!

This will be the third year for the show house which is run in conjunction with St. Phillips Cathedral Annual Antique Sale. This is our first opportunity to participate in this show house, so we are really looking forward to it. We had the opportunity to walk through the house back in August and had to submit a full presentation for the chance to participate. The panel consisted of several designers, and all entries were judged blindly.

Several weeks ago we had the opportunity to go back and see the house, and meet all of the other designers who had been chosen. We have such an amazing team working on the house! The home is actually located on the property of St. Phillips Cathedral in Buckhead, and is one of Atlanta's oldest homes. It was originally home to the Andrews family (Andrews Drive is named after them), but is now used by the church for counseling and community outreach programs.

The room that we will be working on is the Parlor. Located near the back entrance of the home, the Parlor is  just off of the main hallway, and connects to the chapel. The room has all original trim work, including the fireplace and windows. Right now it's just a shell, but we have grand plans for this cozy little room.

We look forward to keeping you connected throughout our design process for this project! Please feel free to ask questions or comment on the progress.

Interior Designers Wear Many Hats

The title of this post couldn't be more true. Interior designers are often adopting different roles throughout a project, especially during an installation. During our large or initial installations, we have a crew to deliver furnishings and to help us install mirrors, art, etc. After the initial install, or for smaller projects, we handle pretty much anything else by ourselves. Luckily, as a team of three, we at least have six hands on deck at all times. It is not rare for us to be climbing on ladders to hang window treatments, potting plants, or moving furniture. During our last install we all ended up wearing many hats. Here are a couple photos to depict this below.

seemakrish

We recently discovered a stunning new line of fabrics at ADAC a couple of months ago. The line was established in 2010, and the goal was for the fabrics to translate traditional Indian techniques of applique, hand block printing, embroidery, along with the memories of her childhood into fabrics that are modern and lively. All of the yardage is made to order, allowing for customization of colors. Here are a few of our favorite prints. Visit there website here to see more.
