New Life for Antique Doors

One of our beliefs, is that it is important to incorporate a mixture of both new and old pieces in every space.

Despite the style of the space, whether it be modern, traditional, transitional, etc, there is always room for a hint of the past. Antique pieces bring a sense of life, texture, and warmth, that we believe cannot be replicated. It may be as simple as using an antique bread bowl on the counter, or it may take focusing a room around an antique Chesterfield sofa to accomplish the right mixture. Every project is so different, but for us, it's always about that perfect balance of old and new.

In two current projects, we are incorporating antique doors. The styles of the projects are completely different. One is a lakehouse with clean shiplap walls, rough hewn beams, and modern accents. The other is a more traditional home that has just been renovated for a more casual style of living. Here are the doors we found. We can't wait to share more about them once they have been installed!

Found Inspiration - Wine + Market

Elle recently travelled to Lexington, KY and found this great little shop called Wine + Market, that we wanted to share.

 The shop is housed in an unassuming building, but beyond the simple facade is a gem. Wine + Market serves as a deli, bakery, wine market, and local goods shop. The interiors are beautifully done, and the food is to die for. If only they could move to Atlanta...

Scott's Finds - June 2013

It was terrible missing out on Scott's in May, so we were so happy to be able to squeeze a quick trip in this month. We didn't come home with any large pieces, but we did find some great small things.

We fell head over heels for this chair! That velvet
is killing us - sadly we didn't have a home for it.

We snagged some of this gorgeous Hodsoll McKenzie fabric!

Piece of the Moment - Duchesse Brisée

We are lucky to work with some amazing antique dealers, and have the pleasure of being able to shop their warehouses when new containers arrive. Each time we are invited, it's truly an adventure. Our whole team looks forward to these days, because we never know just what we are going to find. Often times, we leave with a collection of things, and then sometimes we are simply just inspired by new things. This past trip, we managed to score a gorgeous mirror for a client, but we also found a completely new piece.

None of us had ever seen anything quite like it before, but what we found was a 'duchesse brisée.' It's actually a very early form of the daybed. After a little research, we found this sketch and definition.

Catching Up

We can't believe it's been almost a month and a half since we last posted! Where does the time fly?!

Our May was really crazy, and we had a big install for a massive renovation. We were lucky to be brought in early on the project alongside Kemp Hall Studio architects, so we have been working on it since last July or August. We are still working on a couple of rooms in the house, but we should be wrapping up in the next month or two. It's an absolutely beautiful home, and we hope to share soon!

Last month was even so crazy, that we had to skip out on Scott's Antique Market! We were bummed about that, but we are so thankful to be busy (knock on wood)!

All of that aside, it's time to get the blog running again. We promise to post super soon!

Fun Vintage Finds

We recently attended a large sale at one of the local vintage stores in town, and loved some of the things we found. Unfortunately we couldn't justify bringing any of them home, but we are still loving what we saw. We hope you love the pieces too!

A Major Clean Up

As interior designers, we tend to accumulate a lot of stuff in the office. Whether it's tiles, spec books, inventory, or fabric, it all tends to pile up. We were drowning in fabric samples and paperwork, so it was time for a major clean up. We have always organized our fabrics into different boxes, but they were all exploding at the seams and just stacked one on top of the other. Here's how we spent a recent rainy day, and the final result courtesy of our new shelving unit.
